Sperrin College Students achieve Excellent A Level Results – “Pursuing Excellence Together”

Students at Sperrin Integrated College Magherafelt are celebrating another excellent year of A Level success with pupils achieving 72% pass rate for 3 or more A levels at A*-C and 100 % pass rate for 2 or more A levels.

Principal, Mrs Heron, commended her pupils for their outstanding achievement stating, ‘I would like to congratulate all the Year 14 and Year 13 on achieving an excellent set of results both at A level and AS level. At Sperrin, our staff work closely with pupils and their parents and families ensuring every child reaches their full potential. These results are testament to the ‘Sperrin Approach’ to success, instilling high expectations and developing a strong work ethic in our young people.’

At Sperrin, we are very proud of the achievements of all our students, however, within these results there are some exceptional individual and department achievements.

All students in Art, Business Studies, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Geography, Health and Social Care, History, ICT, Mathematics, Moving Images Arts, Performing Arts, Polish and Sports Studies were awarded the top grades A*-C with 100% success rate. Many students having achieved the top A*A grades in these subject areas.

An A* distinction and A grades were achieved by every student in both the Sports Studies and Chemistry cohort which is a demonstration of the excellent collaborative work between our Partner Schools.

Geography students also achieved top grades with 100% A*/A/B pass rate. This was also the case for Polish with 100% A*/A, ICT 80% A/B, Business Studies 70% A/B and 60% of our Mathematics students awarded the top A grade.

Amongst the top performers, Ryan Martin, Head Boy and former founder pupil of Phoenix Integrated Primary School, Cookstown achieved an outstanding 4 A grades in his A level subjects , Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Geography. Padraig Totten, our Senior Pupil Leader for Numeracy also achieved 4 A grades in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Geography. Padraig will now progress to study Medicine at Bristol University.

As in other years the majority of our pupils have secured a place at their chosen third level institution and will progress to study a wide and diverse range of disciplines from Medicine, Accountancy, Civil Engineering, History, Mathematics, Computer Science, Music and Acting.

Reflecting on their outstanding achievements, Mrs Heron said, ‘On behalf of the Senior Leadership team and all the staff we wish all our pupils well as they move forward to the next phase of their education and lives.’

She concluded that now, ‘It is very important to acknowledge the huge amount of support and expertise given to all pupils from our dedicated staff, both teaching and non-teaching who inspire our pupils every day at school both inside and outside the classroom’. In addition, the Principal thanked the Parents and families for their support given throughout their children’s seven years at Sperrin College.
