Lorna McAlpine receives Queen’s Birthday Honours for Services to Integrated Education.

NICIE shares in the delight of our colleague Lorna McAlpine, Senior Development Officer, who has received a very well deserved and special honour from Her Majesty the Queen in the recent Queen’s Birthday Honours for Services to Integrated Education.

For over 20 years Lorna, a former lecturer at South Eastern Regional College, has been writing funding applications to enable new integrated schools to open and to increase the size of the existing integrated schools.

She said she was over the moon to receive the letter telling her that she had been awarded an MBE.

“I was absolutely delighted. I think I was in a state of shock. It’s not just the recognition for doing the job that I absolutely love but for the team I work with too. I was also humbled to receive this honour.”

“It is a privilege to work with parent groups and existing integrated schools to increase the opportunities for children of Catholic, Protestant, or other religious backgrounds and none to be educated together.”

NICIE has had the pleasure of working with Lorna since 1997 and during this time, she has always worked tirelessly to support and advocate for Integrated Education. Lorna is delighted to accept this wonderful honour on behalf of all of those who have strived to encourage, facilitate and develop Integrated Education over the years.
