Blackwater Integrated College celebrates Integrated Education Week for the first time
13/03/2009
Blackwater Integrated College, Downpatrick, held a series of special activities for all its students to enjoy during Integrated Education Week, based around the theme of “It’s a small world”.
The school only recently opened in September 2008, after a merger between Down Academy and Rowallane Integrated College, and so was celebrating the seven day NICIE event for the first time.
Home economics students decided to mark Integrated Education Week by cooking (and eating!) some of the breads of the world.
While science classes looked at famous women scientists and their contribution to the world of science.
Art students also created a large patchwork piece as part of Blackwater´s celebrations and pupils in history class marked the occasion by studying famous Americans with Irish roots who have made a big impact on the world.
Finally, RE groups got involved as well by collecting pens for Kenya, a small gesture which the school hopes will help make a difference in Africa.
Staff and students all had a great time during the week.
