The special event was organised by the school’s PTA to raise funds and sponsored by generous local stores, including Bay Trading and Tesco who provided all of the trendy clothes.
Hazelwood transformed its assembly hall for the Thursday night show, setting up a catwalk decorated with bright lights and gold stars for the students to strut down.
All the fashion fans that came along and filled the hall to capacity were even given their own goody bag to take home, just like at major fashion shows staged across the world.
Principal Jill Houston added to the professional air by acting as compere during the event, personally introducing all the outfits.
The night was opened by Hazelwood’s award-winning dance troupe, who preformed to a medley of jungle songs, dressed–up in impressive costumes as wild animals and palm trees.
The first pupils to take to the catwalk and try out some model poses were the school’s youngest children from the Nursery and Primary One, bravely tottering down the stage in their specially chosen outfits.
They were followed by students from every other class and even some of the school’s classroom assistants, teachers and past-pupils who had gamely agreed to take part. All the models received warm applause from the enthusiastic audience.
According to Mrs Houston, so many of the pupils wanted to be involved that names had to be drawn out of a hat to decide who got the opportunity to stride down the catwalk.
Before the show drew to a close, Hazelwood’s signing choir also took to the stage and performed Ugly by the Sugababes through sign language rather than singing.
Mrs Houston said: “This is our fourth fashion show and this year we have a new sound desk, new lighting equipment and a new big screen in this hall. All of this is thanks to your generosity when you come to events like this.
“You donate money and we make sure it goes right back into the school and benefits the children, so tonight is for all of them.”
