US Consul General visits Drumlins Integrated Primary School
29/04/2009
Drumlins Integrated Primary School welcomed an esteemed guest to its classrooms last week when the US Consul General for Northern Ireland, Susan Elliott, took time out of her busy schedule to visit.
Ms Elliott had already been to the school once before in January 2008 when she officially opened its current site on the Lisburn Road in Ballynahinch.
Originally Drumlins was based in Crossgar in temporary accommodation, with only 12 pupils attending, but moved to Ballynahinch in 2005 and now has over 60 children coming to class every day.
During her latest visit to the school, Ms Elliott toured some of the classrooms and met Primary One pupils who were hard at work on their task boards.
She also attended a special assembly staged by staff and students to mark the success of their first year on the Lisburn Road site. Entertainment included a presentation about favourite animals by Primary One to Three children and plenty of enthusiastic singing.
Drumlins teacher Esther Potts said: “The visit went very well and Ms Elliott definitely enjoyed herself. We were pleased to have a chance to show her how far the school has come even since her visit last year.
“For instance she saw a lot more of our musical side this time, with some of our students even playing the violin for her in the special assembly we hosted. It was an honour to have her and a real boost for everyone in the school community.”
