The Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education (NICIE) introduced this year’s Youth in Education Conference with a lively debate on the role and ‘shape’ of education in our society at Queens University, Belfast on Friday 30th April 2010.
The one day conference hosted a variety of sixth form pupils (16 – 19 years) from all educational sectors across Northern Ireland in The Great Hall. The experiences, views and vision of the youth brought energy and relevance to the debate about the challenges and opportunities of a shared and increasingly diverse future. Alongside skilled facilitators a cohort of speakers and presenters engaged students in the discussion.

The event provided a real chance for students to make a meaningful contribution concerning our education system’s preparation of today’s young people for tomorrow’s world. Stimulating and contrasting presentations were delivered throughout the day covering a range of perspectives including; faith/religion, Integrated Education, a grammar/selective perspective and a secular & political perspective.
Coinciding with Community Relations Week (26th April – 2nd May 2010) the Youth in Education Conference 2010 aimed to create and foster an environment, which stimulated and empowered a diverse group of young people to collaborate with one another and express their views and ideas on the purpose, importance and relevance of education to their lives and to society moving forward.
