Parents Councils/Associations

Parents’ Councils in Integrated schools differ somewhat from traditional Parent Teachers Associations in concept. The focus is not simply about fund-raising but to provide information and training to new parents about integration in practice and to include the parent body in developing the school’s ethos through policy production and review.

Parents through their involvement in schools help to foster a strong integrated ethos and it is well recognised that schools with a strong ethos which is transmitted to young people through expectations for them to achieve their true potential in an atmosphere in which the diversity of the school community is welcomed, valued and supported helps the schools to achieve very well for their pupils.

A positive school’s overall ethos provides all members of the school community with a safe and respected environment, and is paramount in obtaining a successful learning environment.
