This will be in the form of a 14 classroom school that will also incorporate state of the art facilities within the main hall and dining area. The school also hopes to use the space to the maximum to create and facilitate relaxation rooms for the children.
As well as that, the school has ambitious plans to incorporate a dedicated STEAM (Science, Technology, Art and Maths) area that will connect the shared creative area of the school with a shared area for technology. The school hopes to build on its reputation for ICT excellence (as the only primary school in Northern Ireland with Microsoft Showcase School accreditation) through developing a partnership with Microsoft in supporting such a unique initiative.
The school grounds will also accommodate soft and hard play areas for the children and there are ambitions to create a nature trail at the back of the school to enhance the learning experience of the children.
Speaking about the project, Principal Barry Corrigan said, ‘We have a wonderful opportunity to combine the best of the teaching in Millennium with the best of facilities. We pride ourselves on the commitment of the staff to the child matching the commitment of the original parents who set up the school in 2000. The new building will be a testament to the dedication of the whole school community to bring an excellent integrated education to the families of Saintfield, Carryduff and beyond.’
As part of the planning process a pre-application event to provide people with an opportunity to view the plans is being organised at the school on January 29 from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm. You can find details on the school as well via their website https://www.millenniumips.org/
Anyone wanting to visit the school to see the plans is welcome on the dates advertised and if you wish to enrol in the school to get the opportunity to attend the new building, enrolment is open until 30th January.
Funding for the new 14 classroom school is being supported by the Department of Education and Department of Finance, with the funding part of the Fresh Start Agreement. You can find out more about the Fresh Start Agreement here.
